The Krystallglasmanufaktur is named by the young king of Bavaria Ludwig I. Ludwigsthal is as a settlement of the 19th century with manor-house, factory buildings and glassmaker's houses. The characteristics of this village remain unchanged up to our days. In 1826 the entrepreneur George Christoph Abele started an ambitious project: a glass plant in the area around Zwiesel and Lindberg in the Bavarian forest. He chose such a location in the forest, because of the great quantity of wood required for melting glass. Therefore it was necessary to settle all the workers around the glass plant.

Following many eventful years the plant was shut down at the end of the 19th century. In the year 2001 a group of private investors, together with some of the most qualified artisans of the region, started it again in order to keep alive the strong tradition of glass art.
